I am such a cry-baby

Anyone who knows my emotional side will tell you that it takes a lot to make me angry or sad. Seldom does my sadness show, and, outside of my family, anger does not exist for me.

But exchange changes you.

Living with a family unlike yours, in a culture unlike yours, surrounded by endless summer, you grow.

Now, even the littlest things make me cry. Thinking about my best friends back home, hearing my little sisters’ voices, seeing pictures of snowball fights, aching to make music, receiving a message from my first host mom that says “GOD BLESS YOU” even though she knows not a single word of English (I taught her that phrase). It gets you. It catches your breath as the room becomes blurry and your face turns red and suddenly you’re a mess of hot tears and snot and messed-up hair.
